Successful Sitters is a workshop created by child & family therapists from Empower Family Therapy to help new babysitters gain confidence by learning about child development and how to be an emotionally supportive caretaker. Babysitters will learn how to navigate tough childcare situations, child development frameworks, and important skills needed to feel confident and safe in their first babysitting jobs. What it is:

This 3-hour workshop created and led by two child and family therapists from Empower Family Therapy. This workshop is designed to help new babysitters build confidence and become successful, safe and emotionally responsive babysitters. Small group setting to ensure that instructors are able to provide individualized attention.

Who It’s For:

Young teens who are new to babysitting and interested in developing their babysitting skills. All are welcome, this class is open to anyone who feels they may benefit from these skills, no prior babysitting experience is necessary.

Babysitters will leave the workshop with:

  • Knowledge on child development and emotional regulation for children without neglecting theirs

  • Balancing supporting the mental health of the child as well as their own as the caretaker

  • Useful coping skills and strategies to help the child and themselves navigate overwhelming situations, pushback, tantrums, and big feelings

  • Entrepreneurial skills that will make you a standout in the babysitting market

  • Useful resources for communicating with parents, gathering safety information, and setting boundaries with confidence

  • A peer group/network of other babysitter providers

  • A certificate of completion that can be shown to future employers

  • Parent handouts, useful child care resources, helpful  boundary setting scripts, guided journaling prompts

Who’s Leading the Workshop?

Jen K & Quin O are child and family therapist interns at Empower Family Therapy, and specialize in working with children and teens, as well as their parents and families. Both Jen and Quin were babysitters and are passionate about empowering new babysitters with the tools and trainings to better support the kids they’re caring for as well as themselves as the caregiver.
